DESCRIPTION

The Packet Repeater is a UDP packet duplicator that replicates UDP packets through any IP network. The Packet Repeater has three Ethernet LAN ports and a serial port. The Ethernet ports are copper, MDI/MDIX auto-sensing. The serial port may be used for initial setup to configure an initial IP address if required.

The Packet Repeater duplicates some or all of the UDP packets passing through it. The original packet is passed unchanged; if selected for packet duplication, it is duplicated and the duplicates sent to configured addresses.

All UDP packets are candidates for duplication, selected is based upon configured criteria. The selection of a packet to be duplicated may be based upon any combination of the source IP address, the destination address, and UDP port number. Additional flexibility is provided with the selection criteria which may include multiple address ranges for the source, destination as well as UDP port selected.

Each packet selected by one of the selection rules may be duplicated to as many of the recipient IP addresses configured for the rule for a total of 400 destinations. UDP port numbers may be passed intact with no change to the destination port number, or to a different UDP port number substituted for the original one.

The Packet Repeater is bidirectional. Packets being returned through the Packet Repeater may be passed unchanged, or duplicated.

As all UDP packets are candidates for selection, the Packet Repeater may be used to duplicate SNMP, Sflow, Nflow, Netflow, Rsyslog, SCADA protocols including DNP/UDP, and MODBUS/UDP, as well as all other UDP packets. It is also used as a general purpose UDP packet duplication appliance. Commonly used as a Netflow duplicator or fanout device.

Use as a netflow collector, netflow forwarder, netflow duplicator or replicator, or a general netflow troubleshooting tool. Enhance the efficiency of netflow analysis by selectivly passing or blocking netflow packets, remote netflow streams.

It is also a handy multi-cast to unicast packet converter. Easily transport a subset of multicast packets to unicast addresses, or convert unicast packets to multicast. Allows multicast operations on a unicast network

The Packet Repeater is managed via web browser.

How it works:

The Packet Repeater is used to duplicate some or all of the UDP packets passing through it. The original packet is passed unchanged; and if selected for duplication, it is duplicated and the duplicates sent to configured addresses. All UDP packets are candidates for duplication, which is selected based upon configured criteria. An alternative to the Netsieben netflow replicator. It also works great with Solarwinds network monitor systems.

All UDP packets are candidates for selection, so the Packet Repeater may be used to duplicate SNMP traps, SCADA protocols including DNP/UDP, and MODBUS/UDP, as well as all other UDP packets.

The PR is currently used to duplicate digital audio streams prior to broadcast on multiple transmitters, security video data streams for multiple SOCs, and power meter readings at company interconnection points.
